This increase means an increase in the use of high tensile steels, increasingly demanded of tool steel. The high hardness is one of the main requirements when considering work with this type of raw material. It is required in order to allow continuous work without plastic deformation of the tool as well as abrasive wear. However, by requiring a higher hardness we are actually making the steel more brittle. Thus, the steel to be considered should possess high resistance to abrasive wear, withstand high compression forces and have sufficient toughness/ductility.
